It seems like every month is a different themed month – Mustache March, National Bird-Feeding Month (February.) The theme in May is one I found particularly important and near and dear to my heart – Mental Health Awareness Month. I will be giving tips each week this month in our Mental Health Moments on our social media pages, so make sure to follow those. Below, you will find a few tips I have for you today as you kick off the month.

    Physical Health

As I was browsing through the news, an article popped up about how healthy food, exercise, and sleep are the three pillars of mental health. If you hadn’t heard, this past January Liner Legal created a competition titled Liner Legal Largest Loser for everyone and anyone to join at completely zero cost. The program was 10 weeks long and included weekly meal plans, a workout routine and some sort of wellness component. We recruited practitioners and experts in their respected fields of nutrition, exercise and wellness to share videos with their knowledge to deliver to our participants. This year, we wanted to incorporate a focus of “wellness” rather than the sole focus be weight loss. Each of our participants completed a weekly survey to check up on their mood and how they were working towards their goals. We plan to run this FREE program every year. To participate next year, click HERE and sign up now.

    Mental Health Resources

If you are interested in local mental health resources, a few to keep in mind are your local NAMI – National Alliance of Mental Illness, local ADAMHS Board- Alcohol Drug Addiction and Mental Health Services, and SAMHSA – Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. These are all places you can locate local mental health resources to fit your needs. If you are a current client of ours and are in need of a mental health referral, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me!

    Why Mental Health is Important

Mental health is so easily forgotten as physical health can be on the forefront of our minds. Spend some time today assessing your overall health and see if your mental health has been on the back burner lately. Now that the weather is improving, try to get outside and enjoy the fresh air. Take notice of the blooming plants and trees- spring has sprung! Do more things for YOU. Your body and mind will thank you for it later.

    Be well,
