    Psychological Conditions

Although some people think about physical injuries when it comes to obtaining Social Security Disability (SSD) benefits, many people have established psychological or mental conditions that limit them from working as well.

At Liner Legal, we represent clients suffering from psychological conditions to obtain the social security disability benefits they deserve, even if they’ve been denied in the past. Based in Cleveland, Ohio, and serving areas throughout Northern Ohio including Akron, Canton, Sandusky, Youngstown, and more, the Liner Legal Disability Warriors have successfully won thousands of social security disability cases for clients suffering from psychological and/or mental conditions.

When Your Psychological Condition Limits Employment

Many people living with a psychological condition discover that they cannot stay in a job for a long period of time. Oftentimes, mental conditions can affect your ability to work and sustain employment. When these situations happen, social security disability benefits could be a life-changing solution.

When it comes to mental conditions, the Social Security Administration (SSA) will look at the severity of your condition to determine if you are eligible for disability benefits. In order for the SSA to award benefits, you need to prove that your mental condition has a serious impact on your ability to work.

The Blue Book – Mental Disorders

The Blue Book is a guide used by SSA to determine which conditions may be eligible for social security disability benefits. According to section 12 of the Blue Book, there are nine categories of mental disorders that may qualify you for benefits, including:

    • Affective disorders
    • Anxiety Disorders
    • Autism and related disorders
    • Mental retardation
    • Organic Mental Disorders
    • Personality disorders
    • Schizophrenia, paranoia, and psychotic disorders
    • Somatoform disorders
    • Substance addiction

Within each category, there are dozens of different conditions and impairments. In order to better understand if you qualify for Social Security disability, contact an experienced disability lawyer to review your specific situation.

    Other Mental Conditions Limiting Employment

Within the nine Blue Book categories for mental disorders, there are many different types and variations of psychological conditions that may qualify for Social Security Disability benefits. Your exact condition does not have to match the conditions in The Blue Book word-for-word. Other mental conditions that may qualify you for social security disability could include:

    • Bipolar disorder
    • Tourette Syndrome
    • Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD)
    • Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD)
    • Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
    • Depression
    • Dysgraphia
    • Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
    • Panic attacks
