Flourless Chocolate Cake & Unapologetic Self-Love: A Valentine’s Day Message for the Disability Community

By Debra Shifrin aka “Nana”  | Nana’s Nuggets – Feb Edition

Hi sweethearts,

It’s February, and love is in the air! Today, I want to talk about a kind of love that isn’t wrapped in roses or cards. I want to talk about loving yourself through the hard seasons, especially when you’re navigating the overwhelming world of disability.

This month on Nana’s Nuggets, I’m sharing a decadent Flourless Chocolate Cake recipe—flourless, rich, and unapologetically indulgent. Just like you deserve to be.

Because whether you’re waiting on an answer from Social Security, in the middle of an appeal, or just gathering the courage to ask for help, you deserve to feel cared for. Not just by us, but by you.

The Recipe: Flourless Chocolate Cake

This cake is dense, dreamy, and made with just a few ingredients. It’s gluten-free, naturally low-carb, and perfect for treating yourself or someone you love.

Nana’s Tip: This cake freezes beautifully because sometimes, love is knowing future-you will need a slice too.

This Valentine’s Day, Let’s Talk About Worth

Too often, people going through the Social Security Disability process feel like they have to prove they’re sick enough, tired enough, deserving enough.

But let me tell you something:

“You don’t have to earn your worth. You already have it.
You are worthy of support, of compassion, and yes of a rich, velvety slice of cake.”

At Liner Legal, we know the disability process can feel cold and clinical. So we created Nana’s Nuggets to bring some heart back into the picture to remind you that you are more than your paperwork.

Love Yourself Enough to Speak Up

If there’s one Valentine’s message I hope you take away, it’s this:
Love yourself enough to ask for help.

Because love isn’t just romance. It’s rest, nourishment, and letting people care for you while you heal.

Not Sure Where to Start? We’ve Got You.

Take our 2-minute disability survey to find out if you may qualify for benefits. Once you submit it, someone from our team will call you to talk through your case with kindness and clarity.

You deserve help that feels human—and we’re honored to be on your team.

This Month’s Nuggets of Action

Final Thoughts from Nana

This month, I hope you take time to rest. To reflect. And to remind yourself that you don’t need permission to feel joy, or to ask for help.

If a slice of cake and a few kind words can make your day feel better, then I’ve done what I came here to do.

You’re not alone in this journey. You never were.
We’re here and I’m right here, in my kitchen, cheering you on.

With love (and chocolate),
Nana (Debra Shifrin)
